Art Vision and Mission Statement

In art, there is not just one solution.  Students are encouraged to construct their own questions, cultivate critical thinking skills, and find their own right answers.  As an art student, expect to have fun, take risks, challenge yourself, and enjoy the experience!  Art classes welcome all types of students from any grade level.  Art teachers and students work together to design and engage in projects that push students to the best of their abilities.  Students are expected to contribute to a classroom community of artists by respecting peers, offering positive feedback and constructive criticism, and collaborating so that all may contribute and benefit from the strengths of others.  In a typical art class, expect to

  • be independent and trustworth; take initiative
  • improve in problem-solving capabilities, both technically and artistically
  • take risks; go above and beyond your typical abilities; be persistent in the face of demanding challenges
  • demonstrate understanding of an artist's roles and responsibilities
  • demonstrate understanding of a variety of tools, equipment, media, and technology
  • contribute to a collaborative classroom setting

While art courses are recommended for students interested in careers in the arts, teaching, professional design, and audio/video technology and communications, involvement in the arts equips students for success in a broader range of settings as well.
